Since civil war erupted in Sudan on April 15, 2023, over one million people have sought refuge in a nearby country. Even now, thousands of refugees are arriving daily, leaving behind their homes, belongings, jobs, and loved ones to provide safety for their families.
Many of these people belong to people groups and tribes that are still unreached with the gospel. However, your support is changing that. As Send Relief partners have been distributing food and resources to those in need, they have also been sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. Recently, 16 people from a previously unreached tribe accepted Jesus as their Savior!
Providing Food and Resources Directly to Those in Need
With food scarcity so rampant in refugee camps, providing meals to the hungry is the most important way to show the love of Christ. While other organizations have also worked to supply food, getting it into the hands of the people who need it most has presented a significant problem. Food and other resources are often used to fuel the war instead of helping those displaced by the war.
Send Relief partners on the ground have been the only group in the region to bring resources directly to refugees, distributing over 70,000 pounds of food and relief supplies across five refugee camps.
This relief was only made possible through an incredible effort from our partners. Volunteers worked tirelessly to procure food from 46 different farmers, gather relief supplies, store everything securely in a warehouse, assess roads, and provide security for the transport team in order to prevent theft and violence along the way. All of their efforts came to beautiful fruition when team members saw the joy and gratitude on the faces of refugees who, for the first time in months, knew they had a way to feed their families. They were able to see firsthand that God loved them and supplied their needs!
Reaching the Unreached with the Gospel
In conjunction with each food distribution, Send Relief partners sang worship songs and preached the gospel. As people experienced God’s provision and heard about His love for them in the sermons, the Holy Spirit began to stir hearts in a powerful way. Through these distribution events, a total of 178 individuals accepted Christ as their Savior, which included many unreached tribes.
The work wasn’t complete after the initial event. Partners and volunteers stayed behind in each camp for a week to have additional gospel conversations and disciple new believers.
Send Relief’s work in Sudan is far from done. As this civil war continues, so will our efforts to meet needs in Jesus’ name. Learn how you can join us in providing emergency food relief, transportation, trauma care, shelter, and gospel hope to the people of Sudan!
