Overview

Catastrophic Flooding Devastates Texas Hill Country

In the early morning hours of July 4, historic flash floods swept through Texas Hill Country, triggering a crisis that is still unfolding. The Guadalupe River surged 30 feet in less than two hours. At least 78 people have died, most in Kerr County, and more than 1,000 people have been rescued, including over 100 by air. Search teams continue working around the clock to locate missing campers, including 11 girls from a local Christian camp.

This disaster struck without warning. Campgrounds were overwhelmed, homes were swept away, and entire families are reeling.

With your support, Southern Baptists are now on the ground in Texas, providing urgent help and sharing the hope of Christ.

The Response

Flash flood warnings remain in effect across the region, complicating rescue and relief efforts. Still, SBDR teams are pressing forward with compassion and resolve.

Here is how volunteers are responding:

  • In Kerrville, a Quick Response Feeding Unit (QRU) is fully operational at First Baptist Church. Volunteers are serving hot meals and providing housing. Chaplains, assessors, and an Incident Management Team are active on site. Equipment is also deployed to the Ingram Fire Station to support community needs with laundry and shower services.
  • In San Saba, SBDR teams began arriving on July 6. A QRU mobile kitchen, shower and laundry units, chaplains, and assessors are now in place. Mudout operations are beginning as damage assessments continue.
  • In Fannin County, teams are completing final cleanup efforts following a recent wind event.

Additional teams across the region, and out of state, are on standby. Mass feeding units, bunkhouses, chaplains, mudout crews, and heavy equipment like excavators and loaders are ready to deploy when safe.

“Flood cleanup will begin as soon as search and rescue efforts are complete and the area is safe for teams to enter,” shared Coy Webb, Crisis Response Director for Send Relief.

So far, volunteers have prepared and served more than 500 meals at First Baptist Church Kerrville. More help is on the way.

Deadly Tornadoes Devastate the Midwest

A powerful tornado outbreak and severe storms swept through the Ohio Valley on May 17, 2025, leaving at least 21 people dead and countless others reeling from the devastation. Homes were leveled, power was knocked out, and entire communities were impacted across Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, and beyond.

With your support, Send Relief and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief (SBDR) teams are on the ground in multiple states, providing urgent aid and offering the hope of the gospel:

  • In St. Louis, Missouri, SBDR teams are serving hot meals to survivors and first responders and are preparing to mobilize cleanup efforts in hard-hit Scott County.
  • In Somerset and London, Kentucky, volunteers are clearing debris and partnering with the Salvation Army to meet immediate feeding needs.
  • In Marion, Illinois, teams are assisting residents with emergency needs and beginning the recovery process.
  • In Bloomington, Indiana, SBDR volunteers are actively assessing damage and identifying needs for cleanup and recovery.
  • In Westernport, Maryland, flood recovery teams are being deployed to assist residents impacted by severe flooding, with help coming from SBDR teams across New York, New England, Pennsylvania-South Jersey, and Ohio.

As these faithful volunteers meet physical needs, they’re also sharing the eternal hope found in Christ.
