“I had a friend who was running the LA marathon for the 2nd time and trying to get under 4 hours. I decided to run with her to help her achieve her goal. When I went to register for the race, I discovered that the McCourt Foundation was the official charity of the LA Marathon.
Having watched both my grandfather, then my mother suffer long battles with Alzheimer’s, I decided to run for the foundation to raise funds to help find a cure and support others and their families fighting the ravages of degenerative brain diseases.
My mother was the kindest soul and a beautiful, creative person. Not only did I lose my mother to Alzheimer’s, but my children lost the opportunity to get to know their grandmother. Looking forward to the day that researchers discover a cure for Alzheimer’s so that other families are spared the devastation of losing a loved one in the way I lost my mother and grandfather.” – Carrie
